It's been one of those endless writing sessions. Twice I got close to 2,000 words, then deleted the entire thing because I convinced myself that it was shit, and it was, and my writing was shit. Now I find myself writing these words rudderless, with no direction. By the seat of my pants.

It's funny, because writing is more about commitment than anything else. That commitment to sit down and write. It's a difficult commitment; there are so many other things you could do, yet you commit yourself to doing something hard that's a real struggle, and then force yourself to post to hold yourself accountable.

My children are asleep most of the time, so I get to sit down to read and write. On top of that, my writing is shit, at least compared to anyone who does this for a living. So here you are: this thing that others do for a living, yet it's so basic, so fundamental to being human. There's speaking and writing. I also guess pointing and other forms of art to express your thoughts and feelings. I guess the cool part is that it's 2026, and all I hear about is the lack of reading and writing in today's society; yet here I find myself not only doing this for my own benefit but also to show my kids that reading and writing are cool; they're necessary, even if it's one shitty page a day. In my case, one or two shitty posts a week.

But who knows. Perhaps it's truly shitty what I write, but perhaps someone else reads it, and my shitty post helps them in some way; perhaps they identify with what I write or express; perhaps it makes them feel better knowing they're not so bad at prose after all. Who knows. I know that I need to keep writing, no matter how I feel about it.

Writing and shipping.
